Breed Information

Amerauacanas are the best known of the blue egg layers and their fluffy beards give them a teddy bear appearance. For a detailed description of this breed, the Ameraucana Alliance has written a great article here: Ameraucana Chickens | The Ameraucana Alliance.

Our Flock & Update for 2023 Season

Good quality black, blue, and splash Ameraucanas are difficult to find in Canada so I sourced our foundation flock from five different breeders across the country. I chose the strongest traits from each line to condense into two families which I am developing separately.

In 2021 we focused heavily on our Ameraucanas. We hatched out 200 Ameraucanas in 2021 and selected only the top 5% to keep as potential breeders for the 2022 season. Keeping only the best 5% allowed us to make some incredible strides with our breeding program. We followed a similar method in 2022 but on a smaller scale, keeping only the best 7% as breeders.

We have been selecting our breeders with a balanced focus on the Standard of Perfection while striving to maintain that beautiful blue egg colour that Ameraucanas are so well known for. Temperament is also important to us because some strains of Ameraucana can be flighty so we are selecting for calm and friendly birds.

We take our Ameraucanas seriously so we're one of only two Canadian members of The Ameraucana Alliance. We're also members of the The Ameraucana Breeders Club and the APA (American Poultry Association).

For anyone who's looking to understand more about what makes a quality Ameraucana, I highly recommend purchasing a copy of the Standard of Perfection here.

Availability for 2023

We're only breeding our best trios again in 2023 so we will have limited availability. Preorder early because aside from fulfilling the preorders, we're not likely to have extras during the season. Our breeding season depends on the hens and on the weather and will likely start in April or May.

Hatching Eggs: Due to how much we narrowed down our Ameraucana breeding pens, we're only likely to have a max of 2-3 dozen eggs/week available. Feel free to add more to your order if you'd like, but if you do I might need to ship them separately which will require a second shipping charge. Order above by adding to your cart and placing your order. Please also click here for details on purchasing hatching eggs from us.

Chicks: Order above by adding to your cart and placing your order. Please also click here for details on purchasing chicks from us.

Pullets & Cockerels: Order above by adding to your cart and placing your order. Please also click here for details on purchasing started birds from us.
