About Our Farm

Meet the faces behind the farm, Brittany and Mark Hutchings {and don’t forget the newest member of our farming team, baby James}. Brittany’s love for the farm life is deep in her roots. She grew up in southern Ontario raising chickens, peafowl, pheasants, and ducks. She got her first 5 chickens when she was 8 and that’s where the big dreams began. As an 8 year old, Brittany would spend her summer days in the sunshine beside her flock diving into all of the chicken books that she could get her little hands on… a pastime that she still continues to this day.
In her early adult years, she moved to Alberta to chase her dream of becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). She achieved her goal and successfully secured a job with a local firm, EBT Chartered Professional Accountants, and has been there since 2014.
Mark is no stranger to a small-town upbringing, but the farm life was a new concept to him. He grew up in a small town just outside of Edmonton, Alberta. Work also brought Mark to Medicine Hat and upon arriving in Medicine Hat, Mark met Brittany.
As Brittany and Mark settled into their professional lives in Medicine Hat, they found themselves dreaming of starting a family together and raising their children on a farm, just like Brittany was raised. Fast forward 5 years and their farming dreams came to fruition. Before purchasing Green Valley Acres in 2019, Mark had never lived with livestock {as you can imagine, there is a whole world of surprises for a first-time farmer}, but don’t let him fool you into thinking that the farming lifestyle hasn’t grown on him. You will often find Mark digging into any number of projects around the farm to bring a new adventure to life.

Aside from their full-time jobs and family life {who needs sleep, right?} Brittany and Mark raise their flock of poultry livestock and operate a u-pick fruit orchard that contains Saskatoon berries, raspberries, and chokecherries {can someone say pie}.
One visit to the farm is all it takes to see that their flock is well-loved and cared for {Brittany knows a shocking amount about each chicken. We would not be surprised if she named them all}. The flock consists of a variety of chickens, peafowl, pheasants, guinea fowl, and turkeys.
